Can every shopper get through your store?

More than 1 in 4 US adults has a disability. Open Aisle finds what's stopping them on your Shopify store, then helps you fix it.

For example, yourstore.com

We check your home page and one product page with automated tests. It takes about a minute, and nothing on your site changes. How the scan works

Why it matters

  • More than 1 in 4 US adults has a disability. Many shop with a screen reader, a keyboard, zoom or voice control.

    Source: CDC

  • 3,117 website accessibility lawsuits were filed in US federal courts in 2025, 27% more than in 2024. More were filed in state courts.

    Source: Seyfarth Shaw, March 2026

  • 69% of digital accessibility lawsuits in the first half of 2025 were against online stores.

    Source: UsableNet, August 2025

  • 95.9% of the top million home pages had accessibility failures that tools can detect. Text that's hard to read was on 83.9% of them.

A full audit follows your shopper's route

Automated tests catch only some problems. In an audit we also go through your store the way disabled shoppers do: with a keyboard, with screen readers on a computer and a phone, zoomed in, and by voice.

  1. Home page menus, search, pop-ups
  2. A collection filters, sorting, product cards
  3. A product photos, variants, add to cart
  4. Cart cart drawer, quantities, discount codes
  5. Checkout up to payment; no order placed
  6. Account sign in, orders, addresses

At each stop we check that

  • every button, link and field works with a keyboard alone, in a sensible order, with a visible focus
  • screen readers say what each thing is, and announce changes such as "added to cart" and form errors
  • text stays readable zoomed to 200% and 400%, and colors have enough contrast
  • images, icons and videos have text descriptions or captions
  • menus, drawers and pop-ups open, work and close without a mouse
  • forms say what's needed and how to fix mistakes

We test against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, level AA.

What you get

  • A report on each issue: where it is, who it affects, the WCAG criterion, and how to fix it in your theme
  • A ranked fix list, ordered by how badly each issue blocks shoppers and how much work it is
  • A draft accessibility statement for your store
  • A 30-minute walkthrough call during your working day
  • A dated record of what was tested and how, to keep on file

The report arrives within 7 days of the start date we agree.

What we won't do

  • Sell you an overlay

Widgets that claim to fix a site automatically don't change the code shoppers struggle with. In 2025 the FTC ordered one overlay company to pay $1 million over claims it couldn't back up.

    Read the FTC's order

  • Promise you're "compliant" or "lawsuit-proof"

No honest provider can. We show you what's wrong, help you fix it, and give you a record of the work.

  • Give legal advice

We're not lawyers. If you've had a demand letter, talk to your lawyer first. Our report can help them.

Questions

Is this the same as being "ADA compliant"?

There's no official ADA certification for websites. The Justice Department hasn't set a technical standard for businesses' websites, but its 2024 rule for state and local government sites uses WCAG 2.1 level AA, and lawsuits and settlements usually point to WCAG too.

We test against WCAG 2.2 level AA, which includes everything in 2.1.

Will an audit stop us getting sued?

No one can promise that. Fixing real barriers, and keeping a record of the work, lowers the risk and helps your customers. If you've already had a demand letter, speak to your lawyer before anything else.

What do you need from us?

For an audit, your store's address and a start date. If you want the account pages tested, a test customer login too. We don't place real orders: we test checkout up to the payment step. For a fix sprint, we ask for a collaborator account with access to themes only, and we work on a copy of your theme.

What about Shopify's own checkout?

Shopify controls much of its checkout. We test it anyway and tell you which issues sit in parts you can change, such as your theme, apps and branding, and which are Shopify's to fix.

How long does it take?

You get the audit report within 7 days of the start date we agree. Fix sprints are scheduled after the audit, and we agree the dates when we quote.

Do you work with agencies and developers?

Yes. If you build Shopify stores, we can audit stores for your clients, and your team or ours can make the fixes. Email Connor to talk it through.

Can we get a refund?

Yes, in full, if you cancel before we start. If we haven't delivered your report within 7 days of the agreed start date, you can cancel for a full refund. The details are in our terms.

What does the free scan do with our store's data?

It loads two public pages the way a browser does, runs the checks, and shows you the results. We don't keep copies of your pages. How the scan works
